Help Us Crowdsource An Exhibit!

March 3rd, 2017

What artifact from the Geneva Historical Society collection tells the story of Geneva? The Lafayette Tree? Items from American Can or Sampson? The music of Scott LaFaro or art of Arthur Dove? This spring, the public can help us find 25 artifacts that tell the history of Geneva through a new social media project and exhibit. We will pick up on a national and global trend and crowdsource the exhibit Stuff: A Material History of Geneva. We have selected 50 objects (or sets of related items) that will be posted on the Geneva Historical Society Facebook page—five objects per week from the beginning of March through April. Visitors to the page will choose which of these items make it into the exhibit. Anyone with a Facebook account who visits the page can vote for items by Liking or Sharing the post for their preferred artifacts. After an object has been posted for one week, staff will tally the “votes.” A new set of artifacts will start appearing the following week. Once all the votes are tallied the top 25 artifacts will make it into the exhibit, which will open in June. You will have to visit the museum to find out the winners! Labels will be made from the comments posted on Facebook. Come help us tell Geneva’s story through our collection and place your votes beginning March 6!
